Goals and objectives of the group

In this group, mathematicians from various subfields of mathematics would like to address topics related to equal opportunities, diversity and sustainability.

------------------------------------------------

DMV stands for equal opportunities and diversity, and opposes discrimination!

The Resolution of the DMV Executive Committee of May 8, 2021 states the following:

"The DMV welcomes everyone who is interested in mathematics and wants to build a community that is diverse, respectful, accessible and inclusive. The DMV values the diversity of its members and participants in DMV activities, and sees this as a positive value.
As a professional association, the DMV is committed to creating an environment that encourages open expression and exchange of ideas and is free from any form of discrimination or harassment.

Equal opportunities and equal rights are fundamental principles of the DMV. Discrimination or preferential treatment on the basis of gender, gender identity or gender expression, sexual orientation, descent, racism, national or ethnic origin, language, faith, religious beliefs, age, marital status or appearance is prohibited. Discrimination on the basis of disability or chronic illness is not permitted. The DMV promotes the actual implementation of equal rights for women and men and works towards the elimination of existing disadvantages.
The DMV represents the idea that science is a common endeavor that transcends national borders and contributes to international understanding.

Scientific progress results from the global exchange of ideas, data, materials and respect for the work of others. The free and responsible pursuit of research and teaching is fundamental to the well-being of people and the environment. It requires freedom of movement, association, expression and communication for scientists as well as equal access to data, information and other resources for research. This requires scientific work to be conducted and communicated with integrity, respect, fairness, trustworthiness and transparency, recognizing its benefits and potential harms.

All DMV members and participants in DMV activities are called upon to help achieve these goals. The organizers of conferences and activities that take place in the name of the DMV or with its support are particularly called upon to incorporate this self-commitment appropriately into their activities."

------------------------------------------------

"There is a need for an empirical survey of the existing problems in this field, a research-based analysis of exclusionary mechanisms and a comprehensive discussion of countermeasures as well as a controlled, practically oriented implementation of the same. In this context, it is important that the initiative comes from the side of mathematics and is not left to gender studies alone." (Excerpt from initiating letter, Fall 2022).

Specifically, the group has the following goals (so far):

  • Creating a platform and strengthening network(s) with regard to research and teaching.
  • Promoting and, if necessary, linking thematically related analyzing research from the perspective of mathematics, if necessary by providing support for third-party funding applications.
  • Improving data situation / collecting data.
  • Consulting / being a voice.
  • Designing appropriate measures from the perspective of mathematics in discourse, and showing sustainable possibilities of implementation.
